Jane Street
Jane Street is a global liquidity provider and trading firm which specialises in risk management. The trading firm operates at the forefront of financial markets, with offices in London, Hong Kong, Amsterdam and Chicago alongside their New York Headquarters. In the twenty-five years since its establishment, Jane Street has grown to become one of the most prominent major players in the world of quantitative finance, equities, bonds and options markets. As of 2025, Jane Street trades continuously on more than 200 electronic exchanges and other venues, making them one of the 15 largest market makers globally.
The company uses their own capital to engage in trading activities with almost all software being built in-house. As a result, the firm has the flexibility to invest in a wide range of markets without being at risk of encountering conflicts of interests that would arise in more traditional brokerage scenarios. Central to the firm is an emphasis on understanding the edge cases and tail risks overlooked by other firms, which are often influential when markets deviate from expectations.
EDI at Jane Street
At the core of the values of the firm are ethics, honesty, diversity and inclusion. Jane Street’s commitment to the EDI initiative is reflected in its proactive initiatives to create a diverse and inclusive work environment.

The company places emphasis on providing support for those of a minority gender, ethnic, or cultural background.
● LGBTQ+ inclusion, disability inclusion and mental health are all prioritised while fostering an inclusive workplace culture
● The firm also actively participates in events and schemes which push for gender diversity and inclusivity within the industry, and is also a proud partner of the Oxford Afro-Caribbean Society
As a part of Jane Street’s attempts to diversify the finance and trading industry and ensure that the environment they promote is inclusive, they also hold a number of inclusive programs and short courses, including:
● Insight - this multi-day program for women, transgender, and/or gender-expansive individuals to learn about the roles within the firm and how challenges are solved at Jane Street — including the specific concepts and tools used in their daily work
Early Careers
Alongside their EDI initiative, Jane Street holds many different access and early careers events for students looking to break into the world of finance and trading. Young people interested in this sector can make early contact with Jane Street through their undergraduate and graduate insight and work experience opportunities.
● Focus - This multi-day program was created for first-year university students who have experienced barriers to accessing advanced STEM educational opportunities. It does not require a prior knowledge of finance, and attendees have the opportunity to meet the team and learn more about our trading, software engineering, and strategy and product teams
● Internships - Over the course of a 10-12 week Jane Street internship, university students have the opportunity to explore ways to approach and solve problems through challenging classes and interactive discussions. Jane Street offer opportunities in a variety of disciplines such as quantitative trading, machine learning, software engineering, quantitative research, strategy and product, and more — putting attendees directly into the action
● QTC - Over the course of several days, a select group of university students get the opportunity to explore the real-world ways that math and probability concepts are used in the finance and trading industry. Participants engage with mathematical and financial topics through a combination of short lectures, interactive group games, and mock trading sessions.
